Inspiration: In this free reinterpretation of the tale Donkey Skin, Corinne Tichadou mixes wonder and strangeness. The central figure, half woman, half donkey, dressed in a white apron and wearing a donkey’s head, embodies metamorphosis, disguise and identity ambivalence. The artist hijacks the codes of the tale to offer a contemporary reading, both poetic and grating. The frozen posture, the disproportionate red gloves, the symbolic birds and the ornamental object at the feet of the figure evoke an intimate theatre, suspended between childhood, dreams and the unconscious. The ochre background, both muted and vibrant, reinforces the dreamlike strangeness of the scene.

Corinne Tichadou
France
Corinne Tichadou is a female painter working and living in Beziers, Southern France. Her painting is contemporary, figurative, mythological, biblical, allegorical and contemplative. It weaves links between the past and the present. Through mythology, tales, theatre, opera, biblical stories and her love for Italian Renaissance painting, she seeks timelessness as a philosophy. She paints the human being and questions it about its relationship to the world: to love, to family, to its courage, to its destiny, to its place in society.
