Modern Design
Modernism, or “Modern Design” profoundly transformed the decorative arts. Born with Art Deco, it took a more radical turn in 1930 with the advent of the Bauhaus, a German art school that developed a radically new approach to design, rejecting excessive ornament and superfluous detail in favor of a minimalist, geometric aesthetic. In the mid-20th century, designers continued to create beautiful and functional objects while using mass production techniques to make them accessible to the masses. Modern design had a considerable influence until the 1970s when designers were inspired to explore new forms, techniques and materials.
