Maryi works primarily on paper, a supple and silent canvas where paints, collages, inks, and waxes are deposited. Her approach seeks less to represent than to reveal what emerges between emptiness and fullness, light and shadow, appearance and disappearance. Her work is born in the interstices, in the intervals—those often imperceptible “third” spaces where opposites converse without resolving. She explores this space of passage, the breadth of this “in-between,” where forms and lines seek and transform each other. Each piece, profoundly organic, sketches a fragment, a breath, an unfinished movement, giving form to what lies at the edge of words, approaching the ephemeral, incompleteness, the poetry of imperfection. The serenity of purity.
