Inspiration: The woman depicted in this painting is Penelope, a mythological character famous for her faithfulness and patience, especially in Homer’s Odyssey. Here she is dressed in a long, dark dress, decorated with golden floral motifs that bring a discreet elegance. She wears brown shoes and holds a black cloth in her right hand — probably a direct allusion to her famous tapestry that she undid every night while waiting for Odysseus to return.

Penelope is standing, slightly in profile, facing left. His left hand touches his chest, evoking some introspection or a symbolic gesture of loyalty or emotion. His hair is styled and adorned with a net, reinforcing the idea of a noble or mythological character. Around her, several elements float in an abstract and uncluttered space: Colorful birds (blue, green, red) fly above and around her, suggesting freedom, hope, or the passage of time. Two goldfish at the bottom left seem to be swimming in a space with no visible water, reinforcing the unreal aspect of the scene. Finally, thehe bluish and slightly textured background, with a few touches of sea green on the ground, contributes to a poetic, timeless, almost meditative atmosphere. The line is deliberately naïve but expressive, with an apparent texture that gives a palpable feeling of material.

 Corinne Tichadou

France

Corinne Tichadou is a female painter working and living in Beziers, Southern France. Her painting is contemporary, figurative, mythological, biblical, allegorical and contemplative. It weaves links between the past and the present. Through mythology, tales, theatre, opera, biblical stories and her love for Italian Renaissance painting, she seeks timelessness as a philosophy. She paints the human being and questions it about its relationship to the world: to love, to family, to its courage, to its destiny, to its place in society.
