In April 2022, the press and the art world unanimously hailed the genius of André Dubreuil, who passed away in the year of his 71st birthday. An ace of recuperation and a “poet of iron”, to use the title of the book dedicated to him by Jean-Louis Gaillemin, Dubreuil evolved on the margins of fashion, even in reverse, giving precedence to form and aesthetics in a decade steeped in functionalism. André Dubreuil has always preferred to work on one-off pieces and always refuses re-editions. Also in the sense that he will never cease to look for new material to work with, new material effects to invent. For example, he uses wrought iron, whose matt black colour he adopts to dress it in patinated, enamelled and engraved metals, like so many skins tattooed with geometric patterns or evoking algae and branches.
