Designer: Famous French designer,
Pierre Chapo (1927-1987)
was born in Paris in 1927. He began his professional career by collaborating with sculptors and architects-masters of work such as Charlotte Perriand for the resort of Les Arcs. It was by founding his own studio in 1956 that he was able to give free rein to his innovative vision of design. Inspired by the simplicity and beauty of nature, he created solid wood furniture with a minimalist and uncluttered aesthetic, which aroused the admiration of the design community. Among Pierre Chapo’s most striking creations are the T64 and T1000 chairs, the Ligne and Rectangular coffee tables, as well as the solid wood beds. Each of its pieces is remarkable for its aesthetic sobriety, as well as for the meticulousness brought to every detail, such as joints and finishes. Pierre Chapo’s talented career has been rewarded several times, including winning the Grand Prix National de la Création Industrielle in 1963 and the title of Best French Designer in 1968. His creations are considered icons of modern design and are exhibited in prestigious museums around the world.
