Designer: Le Corbusier, one of the great figures of modern architecture, worked closely with his cousin and associate Pierre Jeanneret. In 1927, Charlotte Perriand joined their Parisian workshop, where she was in charge of designing the furniture and interior equipment. In addition to the LC2, several icons have been created from this joint work: the LC1 tilt-back chair, the LC4 lounge chair and the LC6 table.
Publisher: Since 1965, Cassina has been publishing the LC2 as part of its I Maestri collection, of which it is one of the most emblematic models. It is also part of the collections of the MoMA in New York. This pair combines taupe-colored leather with a chrome-plated steel frame. The publisher’s label is on the underside of the seat and the Cassina signature is engraved on the metal. The armchairs are in a very good state of preservation.
Model: A masterpiece of modernist design, the LC2, originally designed under the name “Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle”, was created in 1928 in the workshop of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. It was unveiled to the public the following year, at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929. The model shakes up the classic design of the armchair: instead of being hidden under the upholstery, the chrome-plated steel tube frame is placed on the outside and forms a kind of cage. It holds independent cushions that make up the seat, backrest and armrests.
