IN US THE PHOENIX

Référence :

The alabaster, under the chisel of the sculptor François-Xavier Poulaillon, is arranged like an Art Deco temple, geometry of silence and brilliance of the divine. Beneath the surface, a fire is reborn — discreet, persistent. Between shadow and gold, In Us the Phoenix celebrates the light that survives the ashes.

Artist: François-Xavier Poulaillon

Materials: Carved alabaster, ink and gold leaf

Inspiration: With En Nous le Phénix, François-Xavier Poulaillon inscribed the rigour of the gesture in the lineage of Art Deco, from which he rediscovered the purity of the lines, the solemnity of the volumes and the taste for symbolism. The work unfolds like an interior architecture, between geometric order and spiritual elevation.
Alabaster, a matter of light and silence, is enlivened by contrasts — the shadow of black ink, the diffuse clarity of stone, the solar brilliance of gold leaf. These elements dialogue in a sacred tension, where the form becomes an offering and the material, prayer.
Finally, the title, En Nous le Phénix, refers to the rebirth of spirit in matter: a secret fire circulates beneath the surface, recalling the promise of renewal. Poulaillon combines modernist rigour with mystical fervour, offering a work that rises to the rank of contemporary liturgy.

François-Xavier Poulaillon is a French stone sculptor based in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

“My work is inspired by sacred architecture and the archaic deities of ancient peoples. My sculptures express a search for grace, for liberation. They are promises of salvation. They place the individual in their relationship to the sacred, to the forces of earth and sky.”
