Thierry Genay is a French photographic artist based in Toulouse. A former student of the Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux and a former graphic designer in the world of fashion, he has been able to transpose his expertise in composition and his sensitivity to materials into sober and refined photographic works.
A contemporary still life inspired by the Flemish masters.
His approach is in the tradition of still life, but with a resolutely contemporary approach. His compositions evoke eighteenth-century still lifes, especially those of Flemish painters, by highlighting simple and often modest everyday objects that lose their initial function to become forms and materials integrated into the background.
This transformation gives his works an aesthetic and poetic dimension, where the balance between the full and the empty, between what is visible and what is not, is carefully framed.
A cabinet of photographic curiosities
Thierry Genay creates a veritable cabinet of photographic curiosities, where natural objects are arranged with meticulous precision. These objects, whether fruit, ceramics or textiles, are enhanced by soft light and a muted colour palette, creating an intimate and meditative atmosphere.
His works invite the viewer to a silent contemplation, to reflect on the harmony of nature and on the beauty of the simple things of everyday life.
